What this is
An index of how well phones hold their value over time, built from what we actually pay for them. A phone is one of the few things most people buy new and sell used, and almost nobody knows what theirs will be worth in two years.
Why it matters
The cheapest phone to own is not always the cheapest phone to buy. A handset that costs more but holds half its value beats one that costs less and holds a fifth.
